Cost

The cost of a bespoke boat canopy varies depending on the size and type of boat, the design, and the materials used. As a general guide, most projects fall somewhere between £1,600 and £4,500+ depending on size and complexity of design. We provide tailored quotations based on your specific requirements to ensure the best fit, performance, and value.

Cleaning & Reproofing

Regular cleaning and reproofing will help protect your canopy from UV, dirt, and weathering. Clean with mild soap and water, avoid harsh chemicals, and allow the fabric to dry fully. Reproofing products can be applied periodically to maintain water resistance, but the correct method depends on the fabric type, typically acrylic canvas or PVC. Choosing fabric

There isn’t a single “best” fabric, it depends on how your boat is used, its environment, and your personal preference. One of the key decisions is breathable (water-resistant) versus waterproof materials. Waterproof fabrics, such as PVC, will always repel water but can trap moisture underneath, which may lead to condensation, mildew, and mould, especially in the UK climate. Breathable fabrics allow moisture to escape, reducing these issues, but rely on surface treatments for water resistance. We’ll help you choose the most suitable option based on your boat, usage, and conditions.

Do you cover my area?

As a general rule, we usually work within a radius of around 80 miles or up to a 2-hour journey from our workshop. Projects beyond this can become more challenging to manage logistically, but we’re happy to discuss individual circumstances.

Using old canopies

No, we don’t copy old canopies. Over time, marine fabrics stretch and shrink, so an old cover is no longer an accurate pattern. Instead, we template directly from your boat to ensure a precise fit, proper weather protection, and a high-quality finish.

How long does it take?

Lead times for a bespoke boat canopy are typically around 6–10 weeks during off-peak periods, and up to 10–16 weeks in spring and summer when demand is highest. Times can vary depending on the complexity of the project and material availability, but we’ll confirm an estimated completion date when you place your order and keep you updated throughout.

How the process works

Our process is straightforward. Once you approve the estimate, we take a 50% deposit to secure your order and schedule the work. We then pattern directly from your boat, manufacture the canopy in our workshop, and arrange fitting once it’s complete. The remaining balance is payable before installation.

Existing frames

Yes, we can often make a new canopy to fit your existing frame, provided it is in good condition and properly aligned. We’ll assess the framework first to ensure it is structurally sound and suitable for a new cover. Using an existing frame can be cost-effective, but any issues with the frame, such as movement, distortion, or design limitations, can affect the fit and performance of the new canopy. For this reason, replacement covers fitted to existing frames carry a limited warranty.

Waterproofing & Leaks

Stitched seams in all marine canopies can allow a small amount of water ingress when new. This is normal, as the needle creates tiny holes that gradually seal as the thread settles and swells with exposure to water. After a few rainfalls, this usually resolves naturally. It’s also worth noting that moisture inside a canopy is often condensation rather than a leak, caused by trapped humidity in certain conditions. Good ventilation will help reduce this.

Using your canopy

Each canopy is designed slightly differently, so it’s important to understand how yours operates. Our fitters will usually demonstrate this during installation, and we recommend practising the process before use. Please refer to the guides using the link below.

Boat location

In most cases, yes. To achieve a precise fit, we pattern directly from your boat at our workshop near Preston. This ensures the canopy is made to the exact shape and alignment of your framework. For some projects, we can travel within a reasonable distance, but bringing the boat to us is usually the most practical and cost-effective option. Contact us to find out how we can help.

Repair or replace

This depends on the age, condition, and type of damage. Minor issues such as small tears, worn zips, or loose fittings can often be repaired. However, if the fabric has deteriorated, lost its waterproofing, or the fit is no longer correct, replacement is usually the better long-term solution.
