HINTS AND TIPS FOR FITTING YOUR NEW BOAT COVER
TONNEAU COVERS
This item is intended as general guidance; there are no hard and fast rules regarding this as each scenario presents its own challenges
but these hints should help.
Whether your cover is supplied with eyelets pre-installed or loose for you to set in the cover, the most important thing is to ensure is that the cover is sitting square on the boat. This is best achieved using 4 people, two at the back corners and one at each top corner of the cab. It can be done with two people but more time and care must be taken to check the cover is sitting in the correct position before committing to positioning any fixings on the boat.
EYELETS PRE-INSTALLED
If your boat has no fittings in place from a previous cover you will most likely have been supplied with a cover that has the eyelets pre-installed. Simply offer up the cover to the boat to set it square following the initial steps described above. Then mark the position of the two top outer eyelets on the top of the cab and install two turnbuttons. Attach the cover to these and pull the cover backwards to each corner, ensuring that the cover is equidistant from each side and flat across the top. With a little tension applied to keep the cover taught, the back corner turnbuttons can be fixed. Your cover should now be held in place for you to mark all the remaining eyelet positions on the boat and install the turnbuttons.
EYELETS LOOSE
If your boat has been fitted with a cover before it will probably still have the original turn buttons in place. If the previous cover was a factory-original, as supplied by the boat manufacturer, the hems of the new cover should align with existing fixings. However, it is impossible to guarantee exact alignment with the eyelet positions which is why we supply a tool for punching the new eyelet hole to accept the eyelets. That way the cover can be fitted using all the original fixings without moving or adding any. However, if the cover is an after-market product not supplied by the OEM then it is likely that the hems of the cover will not align with the fixings so it will be necessary to move, or install, new turnbuttons to accommodate the new cover. Once the new cover has been holed we cannot accept a return.
