Trad Stern Options
Traditional Stern Narrowboats
Canopies for traditional (trad) stern narrowboats are less common than those for cruiser or semi-trad styles, largely due to the layout and design of the stern. The compact space and enclosed engine hatch on a trad stern often leave little room for a practical or aesthetically pleasing canopy. In many cases, there’s simply not enough space to install a frame without compromising access or usability.
That said, some trad sterns do lend themselves to a canopy—particularly if there’s a slightly extended deck or custom features that create workable space. At Amtrim, we assess each boat individually and advise honestly on whether a canopy is feasible and functional. Where suitable, a bespoke canopy can provide valuable shelter from the elements without detracting from the boat’s classic lines.
If you’re unsure whether a canopy would work on your trad stern narrowboat, feel free to get in touch for expert guidance and a no-obligation assessment.
