Apprentice Marine Trimmer / Upholsterer

Full-time | Permanent

Amtrim Ltd is a long-established specialist manufacturer of bespoke marine canopies, upholstery and textile products for the inland waterways and leisure marine industry.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a practical and enthusiastic Apprentice Marine Trimmer / Upholsterer to join our workshop team.

This is an opportunity to learn a highly skilled trade within a well-respected company producing bespoke work rather than repetitive production-line manufacturing.

Apprenticeship & Training

The successful applicant will undertake a formal apprenticeship programme delivered in partnership with NLTG.

This will include:

  • Workplace-based practical training at Amtrim
  • Coursework and portfolio work
  • Occasional attendance at NLTG’s training facility in Accrington
  • Working towards a recognised Level 2 apprenticeship qualification in upholstery/interior textiles or a related discipline

 

The Role

You will work alongside experienced trimmers and fabricators, learning skills including:

  • Marine upholstery
  • Patterning and templating
  • Industrial sewing
  • Cutting and fitting fabrics
  • Zip and fastening installation
  • Framework preparation
  • Use of specialist tools and machinery
  • General workshop production

Our work includes:

  • Narrowboat canopies and covers
  • Marine seating and upholstery
  • Bespoke industrial textile products
  • Commercial and specialist fabric fabrication

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be practical and hands-on
  • Have good attention to detail
  • Be reliable and willing to learn
  • Take pride in producing quality work
  • Be able to work as part of a small team
  • Have a genuine interest in making and manufacturing

Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided, although hobbies or interests involving practical skills, woodworking, mechanics, sewing, fabrication or crafts would be advantageous.

Trainee Trimmer / Upholsterer

Full-time | Permanent

Amtrim Ltd designs and manufactures bespoke marine canopies, upholstery and specialist textile products for customers across the UK.

We are currently looking for a Trainee Trimmer / Upholsterer to join our growing production team.

This role would suit someone with some existing practical or workshop experience who is looking to develop specialist skills within a respected and growing business.

The Role

The successful applicant will assist with the manufacture of:

  • Marine canopies and covers
  • Boat upholstery
  • Bespoke protective covers
  • Commercial textile products

Duties will include:

  • Measuring and cutting materials
  • Industrial sewing
  • Assembly and fitting work
  • Installing zips, fasteners and fittings
  • Assisting with patterning and templating
  • General workshop production duties

Skills & Experience

Ideally you will:

  • Have good practical ability
  • Be confident using hand tools
  • Have good attention to detail
  • Be reliable and motivated
  • Work well within a team environment

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Upholstery
  • Sewing machining
  • Vehicle trimming
  • Marine trimming
  • Joinery or fabrication
  • Canvas work
  • Soft furnishings
  • Manufacturing or workshop environments

However, further training will be provided for the right person.

Industrial Sewing Machinist

Heavy Fabrics, Leather & Technical Textiles

Full-time | Permanent

Amtrim Ltd is seeking an experienced Industrial Sewing Machinist to join our busy production team.

We manufacture bespoke marine, commercial and industrial textile products using a wide range of heavy-duty materials including acrylic canvas, PVC, leather, vinyl and technical fabrics.

Due to increasing demand across both marine and commercial sectors, we are looking for someone confident working with heavy materials and industrial sewing equipment.

The Role

You will be involved in the production of:

  • Marine canopies and covers
  • Upholstery components
  • Protective industrial covers
  • Commercial textile products
  • Heavy-duty fabric assemblies

Requirements

Applicants should ideally have experience with:

  • Industrial walking-foot sewing machines
  • Heavy fabrics and technical textiles
  • Leather and vinyl work
  • Zips, binding and assembly work
  • Accurate and consistent stitching
  • Working from patterns or templates

Experience in any of the following industries would be particularly useful:

  • Marine trimming
  • Vehicle trimming
  • Upholstery
  • Tarpaulin manufacture
  • Tent or awning manufacture
  • Industrial textiles
  • Saddlery or leatherwork
